S o m e o f m y o l d e r , f a v o r i t e L P ' s Like most music-lovers, I could never be a "collector" of music, because I USE recordings over and over; the media suffers over time and usage, and the covers become worn from repeatedly dragging them out and putting them away. Nevertheless, these LP's have given me great joy over a period of up to 40 years. In some cases, I purchased certain LP's only because they happened to be available (such as at Midway Island's limited selection) and discovered music NEW to me, such as Dixieland. Another discovery, by accident, was Barbra Steisand, who I heard at Mr. Kelley's in Chicago, in June of 1963, and was awestruck. Obviously, she rapidly became known to all, but the personal experience led me to collect here first 7 albums. Having played the cornet in my early days, I've naturally been thrilled by good brass music. I was fortunate to hear Rafael Mendez, THE master technician, in person during college. I have always been emotionally THRILLED by good music... affected as by nothing else... sometimes almost to tears. This is true to such an extent that the hair on my arms will stand at attention by merely mentally RECALLING music I love. Like many people, I suspect, not having continued and worked at music may be my greatest regret in life. That leaves me with the greatest admiration and envy for those who HAVE continued as musicians. Below, you'll find just 32 albums, of great variety... some you know, and some you've probably never heard of. I've recorded them here simply because they ARE special to me. |
